experts to help police crack down on crime. ktvu's alex savidge is live for us in oakland and tells us the vote came after hundreds of speakers and a heated debate. >> reporter: well, hundreds of people spoke out on this controversial topic. there were four hours of public comment. the final vote didn't company until the morning. the council approved a consulting contract with bill bratton, a man whose past policing policies have come under fire. that vote angered many people in the audience. many in the crowd reacted strongly as the vote came down just after 2:00 this morning. ktvu had the only camera inside council chambers at the time. police moved in for a short time to maintain order. there were roughly 275 people who spoke at this lengthy council meeting. the council approved a contract with bratton's consulting firm on a 7-1 vote. bratton will help come in and help with a crime-fighting plan. critics are concerned about an apressive stop-and-frisk pomcy that -- aggressive stop-and- frisk policy that some worry could lead to racial profiling. this woman voted against this. >>

handa, ktvu channel 2 news. >>> a pedestrian is recovering after being hit by a nummi bus this morning. it happened in san francisco, it's not clear if the person was in the crosswalk when it happened. the person was taken to ucsf hospital and is expected to survive. the bus driver has been taken off driving duty during the investigation. >>> an in santa clara county a jury today declared a man guilty for driving his suv into three people and killing two of them. jurors convicted 49-year-old armando ochoa of two counts of murder and one count of felony assault in the injury of a third person. prosecutors say ochoa was drunk and drove his vehicle into a sidewalk where it hit the three men. >>> the mayor or rather a controlled burn at a vineyard in lake county turn into a fast moving wildfire today but we have just learned it is now 50% contained. the so called beck's fire at the red hills vineyard on highway 29 and kelseyville. firefighters say it has grown to 300 acres and is burning up steep terrain to the peak. the road going up mount connety has been closed most of the day.

county -- stay tuned to ktvu throughout the morning for more updates. >>> ktvu alex savidge just arrived on scene. what can you show us? what can you tell us? >> reporter: i can tell you this is a pretty good sized fire that is burning here at the lee high hanson cement plant. you can see a pretty good plume of black smoke that is coming up from this hillside here. there is workers driving by leaving the plant at this point. but you can see a lot of smoke there. what we understand is on fire is trucks of some kind. heavy equipment that is up in that area. it's unclear how the equipment caught fire. we understand there is power lines involved here because pg&e has called in. also have calls into the fire department. the plant as well. working to get more information on exactly what has caught fire here. but we are being kept a good distance away from it. we will try to gather more information and be back later on in the show. alex savidge ktvu channel 2 news. >>> two-year-old boy and his mother are listed in stable condition after getting shot last night in menlo park. the drive by shooti

passengers, they have died. ktvu alex savage is live for us, including the man hunt underway right now. alex? >> reporter: police at this point are looking for the driver of the suv, but i also want to tell you here that the sergeant on scene, they have confirmed toney a 19-year-old man was killed in this crash here. he was a passenger inside this stolen suv you're looking at right now. it was being chased this morning by chp officers. the suv was packed with eight people inside, coming down this hill when the driver lost control and slammed into a tree. here was the scene around 3:30 this morning here on the drive in oakland. paramedics transported six passengers with various injuries. one of them later died. the pursue all began when police tried topping this suv when the driver of the suv took off. chp officers picked up the pursuit on the freeway in oakland. it's unclear if alcohol was involved here, but the sergeant tells me that this suv was going dangerously fast. >> when you take these extreme measures to avoid one crime, you just multiply that and you do jeopardize the saf
